Work Zone Safety Advisory Committee
Active dates:1992-
Authority:
Transportation Commissioner James Denn
Function: Advises the Minnesota Department of Transportation concerning safety of workers and others in highway construction and maintenance work zones. The Committee will expand the Department's emphasis on work zone safety to include the building trades that construct and maintain highways and bridges.
History:
In the past 5 years (prior to 1992), there were 67 traffic-related fatalities in road work zones, including two Department employees. Commissioner James Denn said motorists can reduce speed in a work zone, adjust lane position away from workers and prepare for the unexpected.
The Committee appears to have existed through at least 1994.
Membership:
The committee includes representatives from the building and construction trades, including ironworkers, painters, masons, carpenters, electricians, operating engineers, laboreres, drivers and public employees, and three construction contractors.
