Function: The mission of the Board is to promote, preserve, and protect the health, safety and welfare of the public and animals through the effective control and regulation of the practice of veterinary medicine. The Board licenses veterinarians, registers veterinary corporations in Minnesota, and investigates complaints concerning them.
Membership:
7 members; 2 public members as defined by Minnesota Statutes 214.02, and 5 licensed veterinarians; appointed by the governor. Each appointee shall be a resident of the state of Minnesota, and the veterinarian members of the board shall have practiced veterinary medicine in this state for at least five years prior to their appointment. Membership terms, compensation of members, removal of members, the filling of membership vacancies, and fiscal year and reporting requirements shall be as provided in sections Minnesota Statutes 214.07 to 214.09. Three to five full board meetings are held per year; as well as, Complaint Committee meetings. (2011)
