Sentencing to Service Program

Sentence to Service (STS)

Function: To provide an alternative sanction for the court for placing nondangerous offenders on supervised work crews. The STS program is operated by the Department of Corrections, the courts, and local governments.
History:
The STS program is jointly financed by the department of Corrections and participating counties. The Sentencing to Service program was expanded substantially during the 1989-90 biennium.
The phrase "Sentence to Service" was added by Laws of MN 1990, Chap. 579, s. 3.
