Makes recommendations to the Minnesota commissioner of commerce on the educational experience, appraisal experience, examination specifications, and continuing education requirements for real estate appraisers, and the standards for the development and communication of real estate appraisals.
2010 Minn. Laws Chap. 347 Art. 6 Sec. 5 changed the number of members to 9 from 15 - previously the breakdown was 8 licensed real estate appraisers, 4 consumers of appraisal services, 3 public members; appointed by commissioner of commerce; 3-year terms; per diem and expenses. The Real Estate Appraiser Advisory Board was reviewed by the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) in 2013 as part of their biennial duty required by Minn. Stat. 3.885 Subd. 11. The LCPFP's 2013 Recommendations called for the board to be repealed and 2014 Minn. Laws Chap. 286 Art. 5 Sec. 5 contained the repeal.
The Real Estate Appraiser Advisory Board consists of nine members appointed by the commissioner of commerce. Three of the members must be consumers of appraisal services, of whom one member must be employed in the financial lending industry, and six must be real estate appraisers who are currently licensed in good standing, of whom three members must be certified residential real property appraisers and three members must be certified general real property appraisers.
