Advisory Committee on Public Convention and Civic Centers

Function: Develop methods for coordinating the marketing and use of public convention and civic centers throughout the state; develop a plan to implement coordinated marketing of state facilities to national, regional and state conventions and hospitality shows; develop an electronic database that will promote state convention and civic centers to interested parties outside the state; review proposals for state funding of new convention centers or major remodeling, and prepare funding recommendations to the governor and legislature.
History: The Committee expires June 30, 2003.

Department of Trade and Economic Development
Membership: Chair appointed by the governor, one member from any political subdivision receiving a state subsidy for a convention or civic center, to be appointed by the city council or board of county commissioners; four members of the public, appointed by the governor, two of whom are representatives, members, or employees of convention bureaus or trade associations, and two of whom are representatives of other businesses or employee organizations that benefit from the operation of the public convention and civic centers; and the Commissioner of Trade and Economic Development or the commissioner's designee.
The Committee meets 3 to 4 times per year.
