    Board of Podiatric Medicine

    Function:

    The mission of the Board of Podiatric Medicine is to protect the public by: 1) extending the privilege to practice to qualified applicants, and 2) investigating complaints relating to the competency or behavior of individual licensees or registrants. In addition, the Board responds to inquiries regarding scope of practice, provides license verification information to credentialing agencies, and initiates legislative changes, as needed to update the practice act for podiatric medicine. Adopted by the Board on March 1, 2004.

    History:

    The board has been in place since 1917 but has had a variety of names. The board was named the State Board of Chiropody from 1917 through 1961, the State Board of Podiatry Examiners and Registration from 1961 through 1976, the Podiatry Board from 1976 through 1987, and was named the Board of Podiatric Medicine in 1987.
