Douglas J. Johnson Economic Protection Trust Fund Technical Advisory Committee
Active dates:1983 -
Function: Before submission of a project to the Iron Range Resources and Rehabilitation Board, the commissioner of Iron Range resources and rehabilitation shall appoint a technical advisory committee consisting of one or more persons who are knowledgeable in areas related to the objectives of the proposal.
This group was originally called the Northeast Minnesota Economic Protection Trust Fund Technical Advisory Committee. 2002 Minn. Laws Chap. 377 Art. 7 Sec. 14 changed the group's name to Douglas J. Johnson Economic Protection Trust Fund Technical Advisory Committee.
The Douglas J. Johnson Economic Protection Trust Fund Technical Advisory Committee was reviewed by the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) in 2013 as part of their biennial duty required by Minn. Stat. 3.885 Subd. 11. The LCPFP's 2013 Recommendations called for keeping the committee, but advised the IRRRB to consider whether it would recommend statutory changes to combine this committee with the Northeast Minnesota Economic Development Fund Technical Advisory Committee, since they currently meet as one group.
"The mission of the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is to review projects that the IRRRB is proposing should be funded and make recommendations about whether the projects should be funded prior to presentment of such projects to the Board for approval of expenditures for such projects. Funding for projects from both the Northeast Economic Development Fund and the Douglas J Johnson Economic Protection Trust Fund may not be approved until the TAC has had an opportunity to review the projects."
