Function: Review national health plan bill proposed by President Clinton as it affects Minnesota health care process; advise Minnesota's congressional delegation.
History: On October 28, 1993 Governor Arne Carlson announced the creation of the Minnesota Task Force on National Health Policy. Minnesota is recognized as one of the nation's leaders on health care reform, and the Governor said there is concern that President Clinton's recently unveiled plan [on health care] may disrupt the state's progress.
Membership: 17 members. The Governor will serve as chair.
Members include: Health Commissioner Mary Jo O'Brien; Curt Johnson, Deputy Chief of Staff for Carlson; Sens. Duane Benson, Linda Berglin, John Hottinger, Sheila Kiscaden and Pat Piper; Reps. Roger Cooper, Lee Greenfield and Peggy Leppik; Thomas Swain and James Ehlen of the Minnesota Health Care Commission; Physician Ray Christianson; James Toepel, Minnesota Seniors Federation; Pete Benner, AFSCME, Council 6; and Robert Waller, Mayo Clinic Foundation.
