Advisory Council for the Minnesota School for the Deaf

Function:

Advise the Minnesota Department of Education concerning management of the Minnesota School for the Deaf.

History:

Separate councils for the academies for the deaf and blind were created in 1976. The membership was increased from 7 to 8 in 1978, and representatives of the schools were added as members. In 1983 both groups were renamed task forces and their existence made permissive. In 1985 the groups were combined and changed back to an advisory council that would not expire.

Membership:

As of 1982, 8 members. Members are appointed by the Board of Education, representing various geographic regions of the state and include parents or guardians of hearing impaired children, 2 representatives of groups representing hearing impaired individuals, and a staff person from the school for the deaf.
