Land Use Advisory Committee

Also known as:
Metropolitan Land Use Advisory Committee
LUAC
Active dates:1976 - 2014
Function: The Land Use Advisory Committee provides advice and assistance to the Metropolitan Council in the areas of land use and comprehensive planning, and in matters of metropolitan significance.
History: The Land Use Committee classifies all public and private lands in Minnesota with reference to the use to which the lands are adapted, principally with respect to their adaptability to present known uses such as agriculture and forestry. Copies of the Committee's classifications are recorded in the office of the register of deeds in each county in which the classified lans are located.

The Committee appeared to stop meeting after November 15, 2012.

The Land Use Advisory Committee was reviewed by the Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy (LCPFP) in 2013 as part of their biennial duty required by Minn. Stat. 3.885 Subd. 11. The LCPFP's 2013 Recommendations called for the committee to be repealed and 2014 Minn. Laws Chap. 286 Art. 2 Sec. 1 contained the repeal.
Advisory to:
Membership: 16 members, one from each council district, and as many additional members as are necessary to provide representation from each metropolitan county, plus a chair. At least one-half of the members of the advisory committee shall be elected officials of local governmental units. The members shall be appointed for the same period as the term of the council member for the district in which the member resides.
