Family Farm Advisory Council

Advise the Minnesota commissioner of agriculture concerning the family farm security program; review applications for family farm security loans; recommend to the commissioner, legislature, and public any changes needed in state policy or programs to promote the economic health and viability of the family farm.

History:

The council was created in 1976. In 1981, language relating to expiration of the council was stricken; in 1983, the expiration language was reinstated. The council expired in 1993 (see Laws of Minn. 1993, chap. 337, sec. 20).

Membership:

The council consists of seven members (two officers of commercial lending institutions, one dairy farmer, one livestock farmer, one cash grain farmer, one officer from a farm credit association, and one agricultural economist), appointed by the commissioner of agriculture.
