Information on Minnesota State Agencies, Boards, Task Forces, and Commissions

The Legislative Reference Library maintains this database of information on state agencies, boards, task forces, and commissions.

The Legislative Reference Library has collected information on state agencies, boards, task forces, and commissions since the early 1970s (e.g. Board of Pharmacy). As groups are created, change names, or cease through successive administrations, the Library's database is a valuable historical resource. All information on agencies from the Library’s print collection of agency notebooks has been digitized. These materials, which include press releases and news articles, are incorporated into the “documents/articles” section of each record. Records are continually added and updated. Report any errors or additions to library staff.

Agency Oversight:

  • Sunset Advisory Commission - Active 2011-2013, this commission reviewed nearly 30 executive branch state agencies and made recommendations on whether those agencies should continue to exist.
  • Legislative Commission on Planning and Fiscal Policy - In 2013 this commission was given authority to biennially review executive-branch advisory groups and make recommendations on the continuing need for a group, and on any changes in laws governing a group that are needed to improve the group's efficiency and effectiveness.
