The council works with the Minnesota Department of Agriculture to: promote and stimulate the use, sale and consumption of dairy products and to improve methods of production, processing and marketing thereof.
The Minnesota Dairy Promotion Council merged with North Dakota and South Dakota dairy promotion councils in 1993, forming the American Dairy Association and Dairy Council of the Upper Midwest. In 2003 this organization joined with the Midland Dairy Association to form the Midwest Dairy Association, which includes Minnesota, North and South Dakota, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Illinois, Arkansas, Nebraska, parts of Oklahoma. The Minnesota Dairy Promotion Council is the funding authority for the Midwest Dairy Association in Minnesota.
22 members appointed by commissioner of agriculture; 2-year terms.
