Minnesota Land and Lakes Attractions Board

Function:

It shall be the duty of the board and it shall have the power and authority to carry on and conduct a publicity campaign, exploiting and advertising the characteristics and true worth of Minnesota lands and the various attractions afforded by the numerous lakes of this state. Said board shall not incur any liability against the state, except as appropriations may be made therefor by the legislature.

History:

The board worked in conjunction with the Ten Thousand Lakes of Minnesota Association to promote tourism to the state. The Legislature appropriated money to the board for its work through 1925. In 1925 the Legislature established the Conservation Commission and gave that new commission the powers, rights, and duties previously held by, among others, the Land and Lakes Attractions Board. 

Membership:

The board shall be composed of five members, appointed by the governor, which said appointees shall hold office during the pleasure of the governor, and shall serve without pay.

In April 1919, Governor Burnquist appointed the following members to the board: R.R. Wise, J.K. West, E.J. Westlake, Troy Himmelman, and S.W. Dittenhofer.
