Major River Crossings Task Force (1988)

Active dates:1988 - 1989
Authority:
Metropolitan Council
Function: "The Metropolitan Council and the Minnesota Department of Transportation requested the Transportation Advisory Board (TAB) to study the major river crossing needs in the Metropolitan Area. The study was conducted to develop a regional consensus concerning priorities for bridges crossing the Mississippi, Minnesota and St. Croix Rivers." - from Major River Crossings Study Report (1989)
History: This group was not the same task force that met in the late 1970s, but did review the work of the previous task force while conducting the new study. In its review of the previous group's work, the 1989 study states: "Over the past decade many of the top-ranked bridges of the earlier study have been reconstructed. However, growing funding shortfalls, deteriorating bridge conditions and increasing demands for river crossing capacity required a re-analysis of all the major Metropolitan Area river bridges," (p. 1).
Membership: 12 Transportation Advisory Board members and 3 Technical Advisory Committee members; Appointed by the Transportation Advisory Board Chair
