Pipeline Safety Commission

Function: The commission is to review pipelines throughout the state for safety and reliability.
History: Perpich established the commission after a gasoline leak from a Williams Pipe Line Co. line in Mounds view July 9, 1986, caused two fires and explosions that killed two people and injured one.
The temporary commission met for four months in 1986. The commission released a report in late November, 1986.
Membership: 25 members - to represent the pipeline industry, business, the University of Minnesota, the Legislature and labor. State Sen. Steven Novak and Jon Grunseth, vice president of public affairs for Economics Laboratory, will be the panel's chairmen.
Members serve without pay.
