Minnesota Board of Nursing

Function:

Licenses professional and practical nurses, registers public health nurses, disciplines licensees, renews licenses, and approves nursing schools in Minnesota; also lists professional nursing organizations that certify certain advanced nurse specialists for the purpose of third party reimbursement, and identifies nurse practitioners eligible to prescribe drugs and therapeutic devices.

History:

The Act creating the Minnesota State Board of Examiners of Nurses became law on April 12, 1907. The name was changed in 1955 (1955 Minn. Laws Chap. 34 Sec. 2).

16 members (4 public members; 4 licensed practical nurses; 8 registered nurses); 4-year terms. (as of 2011)
