The commission is tasked with making a tax code for the State of Minnesota. The commission shall also prepare and report a bill or bills providing for any constitutional amendments which may be necessary for properly carrying out the system of taxation recommended by the commission.
The commission shall complete its work by February 1, 1902.
The commission's final report further described the work and responsibilities of the commission: "The commission was called upon, not merely to codify the existing laws, a comparatively slight task, but it had to provide also for 'a complete system for the just and equitable taxation of all forms of property, both tangible and intangible,' a work of extreme importance affecting all classes of citizens and all industries in the state."
The commission was composed of three members, appointed by the governor, attorney general, and state auditor. Members shall be legal voters and residents of the State of Minnesota.
The following individuals served on the commission: G.S. Ives, W.J. Hahn, and H.W. Childs.
