The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act in Minnesota
Funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) have begun arriving in the states and may be used in a variety of ways to help revive local economies. The Recovery Act provides fiscal relief for state and local governments, tax relief, and funding for transportation, health, education, and energy conservation/renewable energy initiatives.
While the stimulus funds and projects will be distributed among many different agencies in Minnesota, the Commissioner of Minnesota Management & Budget has been designated as the state’s coordinator for the Recovery Act. Minnesota’s official ARRA website provides an overview of the Act’s administration in Minnesota, estimated allocations by program area, data on state-approved funds, and links to Recovery Act activities in Minnesota state agencies.
For many Minnesotans, the first signs of stimulus funding were the orange construction signs along our roads proclaiming, “Project Funding by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act”. The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s website provides detailed information on stimulus projects in the state. A recent report by Minnesota 2020, Minnesota’s Road to Recovery: an Analysis of Transportation Recovery Projects, provides an additional summary of state transportation projects.
