Clear Writing
Now that session is over, you may be turning your attention to longer-term research and writing projects. For help with the often-obscure technical aspects of legal research and writing, turn to the Library! A new addition to our collection is Kent Olson's updated edition of Legal Research in a Nutshell. A mainstay for researchers, it's comprehensive enough to serve as a primer for anyone new to legal research while also serving as a quick point of reference for those more experienced.
Some titles about writing you may have missed during the rush of session include The CQ Press Writing Guide for Public Policy and Dreyer's English: An Utterly Correct Guide to Clarity and Style.
To accompany these books, we recently added a subscription to The Clarity Journal, “the leading source of plain language news and research from across the globe.” We’re excited about this quarterly publication, which looks at best practices and applications for plain language in national and international contexts. Articles discuss “using plain language to protect consumers,” make the “case for clarity in modern legislation,” and much more.
