Governor Tim Pawlenty today announced the appointment of Judson Bemis, Jr., Andrew Berryhill, and Margaret Rapp to the Minnesota State Arts Board. Judson (Kim) Bemis, Jr., of Minneapolis, recently served as Interim Managing Director of the St. Paul Conservatory of Music. He was Chairman and CEO of Solv Technology from 1992 to 2004 and was Sales and Marketing Director for several divisions of the Bemis Company, Inc. from 1985 to 1992. He was a professional actor in New York City from 1979 to 1985. Bemis currently serves on the boards of the Guthrie Theater Foundation, the MacPhail Center for Music, and the Minneapolis Club. He previously served on the boards of the Minnesota Orchestra Association, the Theatre Communications Group, the Playwrights Center, and the Theater de la Jeunne Lune. He is a resident of the fifth Congressional District and will serve a four-year term ending January 5, 2009. Bemis replaces Chris Osgood on the Board. Andrew Berryhill, of Duluth, has been the Executive Director of the Duluth Superior Symphony Orchestra since 2002. From 1996 to 2002, he served as Assistant Director of Programming for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. From 1994 to 1996, Berryhill served as Operations Manager for Jonathan Wentworth Associates in New York. He also served as principal on-site representative for all classical music performances for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Berryhill served as a board member of the Arrowhead Regional Arts Council, the Northwoods Nonprofits Business Collaborative, and was a Depot Foundation Arts Initiative Award Winner. He is a resident of the eighth Congressional District and will serve a four-year term ending January 5, 2009. Berryhill replaces William Miller on the Board.
The Minnesota State Arts Board attempts to enrich the quality of life in Minnesota by making the arts accessible to all citizens, nurturing creative activities, encouraging the development of innovative forms of artistic expression, and preserving the State's diverse artistic heritage. The Board provides grants and services to individual artists, arts organizations, schools, colleges and universities, communities, and other organizations that sponsor arts activities. The Board is made up of eleven members appointed by the Governor. |
